Weak areas and programme links

This page shows what has been demonstrated as weak, what is still pending a pre-check, and exactly where each area is addressed in the programme.

Atomic structure, reactions, gas tests and conservation

high to address

Q24 secure; Q25/Q32 partial; Q26/Q33 incorrect; Q27–31 largely blank. Element/compound/mixture was stronger than atomic structure, gas tests, formulae and conservation explanations.

Programme link: Priority 1 — Chemistry — immediate Years 7–8 foundations (p1chem)

Cells, gas exchange, digestion and absorption

high to address

Baseline Q1 secure; Q2–3 partial; Q4 blank; digestion/nutrition Q9–13 all blank. This shows isolated cell knowledge but major gaps in organelles, alveolar adaptations, digestion, food tests and absorption.

Programme link: Priority 1 — Biology — immediate Years 7–8 foundations (p1bio)

Energy and electricity foundations

high to address

Q41, Q42 and Q51 secure; Q40/Q49 incorrect; Q39, Q43–44, Q50, Q52 blank. Power/thermal-transfer/resistance calculations were isolated strengths within a broader energy/electricity gap.

Programme link: Priority 1 — Physics — immediate Years 7–8 foundations (p1phys)

Forces and motion

high to address

Q45 partial; Q46 and Q48 blank; Q47 incorrect. Resultant-force direction was partly understood but Newton’s laws, distance-time graphs and mass/weight were insecure.

Programme link: Priority 3/4 — Physics foundations / remaining Year 9 (p3phys/p4phys)

Particles, waves, sound and light foundations

high to address

Particles Q19/Q21 partial, Q20/Q22–23 blank; light/electromagnetism Q53–55 blank. Later waves/sound/light work is therefore treated as foundation catch-up.

Programme link: Priority 3 — Remaining Years 7–8 Physics foundations (p3phys)

Reproduction and ecology

high to address

Reproduction Q5 incorrect, Q6–7 blank, Q8 partial. Ecology Q14 partial but Q15–18 blank. These are direct diagnostic gaps.

Scientific skills for Autumn calculations and practical work

high pending pre-check

Not yet assessed directly. The Priority 2 pre-check will test units, standard form, percentage change, variables and data-handling skills used across Chemistry and Physics.

Programme link: Priority 2 — Scientific skills (p2skills)

Year 9 Autumn Biology bridge

high pending pre-check

Not yet assessed directly. A short pre-check before Priority 2 will test Organisation, Bioenergetics and Infection/response knowledge needed for current Year 10 Autumn.

Programme link: Priority 2 — Biology — immediate Year 9 / bridge knowledge (p2bio)

Year 9 Autumn Chemistry bridge

high pending pre-check

Not yet assessed directly. A short pre-check before Priority 2 will test Bonding and Quantitative Chemistry foundations needed for current Year 10 Autumn.

Programme link: Priority 2 — Chemistry — immediate Year 9 / bridge knowledge (p2chem)

Year 9 Autumn Physics bridge

high pending pre-check

Not yet assessed directly. A short pre-check before Priority 2 will test Energy calculations, Electricity and Magnetism needed for current Year 10 Autumn.

Remaining Year 9 Biology core

medium pending pre-check

Not yet assessed directly. A short just-in-time Biology pre-check before Priority 4 will determine whether full remediation is needed.
